Why You Need a Life Change

It all starts somewhere…

As I strolled to the back of the Qantas plane, I knew that as soon as I took off, my life would be in a better place and my dreams were going to be fulfilled.

The flight was 3/4 full and I was about to fly 14 hours crammed next to a kind mother and child. I decided that my first lifestyle change was not to spend half a day cramped in a plane so I asked the steward if I could sit where there were a few empty seats near me in coach. The steward with the strong Australian accent told me to wait just a moment and if no one sat there then I could. Obviously, a few people ended up sitting there.

As the last few people found their seats,  the steward pointed to me and said the few words you rarely, if ever, want to hear before you take-off on your life journey…

Sir, come with me.

By this point, I really thought I had ruined everything. Within a few seconds, my mind went from being thrilled to be headed to Australia to hoping I wasn’t being taken in for questioning.

The next thing that happened was the exact thing that should happen when you attempt anything…

Sir, you can sit here.

All of this happened within a short period of time, yet I went through more emotional swings in that time than the last year probably. From awesome to what-did-I-do-wrong to hell yeah all in the time it took to say bye to the lady and child sitting next to me and be introduced to my wonderful new business class seat.

Yes folks. All I did was take a leap of faith and here I was headed to the place I loved the most in the world in business class for nothing more than a few words to the kind man bringing me my, now, upgraded meals and champaign.

None of this would have happened if it weren’t for starting somewhere in making my life change a reality.

Where is your life headed exactly…

Whether it be making the final decision to leave “comfortable” and enter the world of random foreign travels or asking a steward for a different seat because you want it, you have to acknowledge that a change is necessary in your life and start taking it in a different direction by acting upon it.

I would assume (aka make an ass primarily out of me) that most of you readers are looking for guidance. If Tim Ferriss is reading this than I doubt that, but most of you are probably looking for that spark, that passion for whatever it is will make you the happiest you could possibly be. I know thats what I was doing for the 6 months or so I was reading ZenHabits before deciding to leave everything behind.

Once it finally hit me over the head that I was in control of my own life excursion, I was able to make the decisions that led to my success. The same applies to you.

Do the following to figure out where you should be headed:

  1. Sit in a quiet place and ask if you love your life.
  2. Sit and think for 5 minutes about whatever the hell you want.
  3. Go ahead…I can wait….
  4. After those 5 minutes are up, ask yourself if you love your life.
  5. Whatever conclusion you come to will be your starting point for where you want to take your life from here.

If you feel like you have no idea where to go from here, that is fine. What you do know now is that you either need to do more of what you are doing or change everything about what you are doing. That is when you should start jumping off bridges.

They all jumped off that bridge so you should too…

Now, I know what you have heard your whole life.

Your Name Here, don’t jump off the bridge because everyone else is jumping off the bridge.”

Your mother may have been the one to always say this to you as a kid. For the most part, this does come into play in western culture where following is bad and leading is far better. Yet there are always exceptions.

There are many people just a click away, who I would actually say you should jump off the bridge right behind. I have come to realize that following others paths isn’t necessarily wrong if they are blazing a trail that you admire and desire for yourself.

Many of the physical roads and walkways we travel today are similar to those decades ago. We have just morphed them into what works best for us. Apply that to your excursion.

Jumping off the metaphorical bridge isn’t always bad. You just have to make sure you are landing where you want to land and not where others tell you to.

Babies are Excuses…

Now, I am sure you are saying things like, “Well, I have a good job that pays well so I don’t want to leave in this economy,” or, “I don’t think traveling is for me,” or, “We have kids so we can’t overhaul our life.” Let me stop you right there. Karol Gajda, Sean Ogle, and Adam Baker are all examples of each excuse blown to shreds to find the life they wanted. Maybe the quotes are a bit off, but you get the point. Sure, each of them traveled the world, but they didn’t really have to to necessarily find the life they wanted by traveling the world. They just had to do one thing to find their happiness.

The #1 thing they each did was ACT.

They didn’t make excuses as to why they couldn’t change their life. They just said, “I am going to do everything in my power to improve my life.”

Whatever your circumstances are at this very moment, understand that the only thing holding you back from attaining or multiplying that life you love is facing the fear of change head on and doing everything in your power to make your dreams more of a reality.

Just act and change will be easier than you could have ever imagined. Don’t believe me…ask these guys….

Schucks...This one is super unique. No similar posts.
