What is an Excursion?

Surprisingly, it has been a while since someone has asked me this question.

I think most people assume they know what an excursion is. The casual observer of the word excursion would view it as a trip or journey. They would be accurate in predicting such, but why is there such a limitation on the meaning.

An Excursion is Right Now

What you are doing is taking an excursion right now. You are taking a path to a destination. Maybe not physically moving step by step, but generally speaking going from one place to another in your life.

My excursions have taken me half way around the world (…and back), into a strong relationship, and onto many other paths that I never thought possible. The travels I have taken in life have come from me deciding that I want to leave HERE and go THERE even if I don’t actually know where THERE is.

With excursions, they can be seen in the future or looking back. There have been many excursions where I fell onto the path and realized I was on one after the fact. Usually, these end up being the most exciting ones as the unplanned is untellable.

I love stories and journeys that are untellable. By that I mean they 1) are to complex to truly spread the understanding without personally experiencing such, 2) lack the structure of planning which leads to unpredictable but real results, and 3) leave control in the hands of fate.

How’d You Picture It

When I have set out on an excursion in the past, people have come to me questioning the impracticality of ignoring structure. I tend to rebuke structure designed by others because it doesn’t lead to my results. It leads to the results of many. Why worry about many when I have enough going on with myself.

So, picturing excursion from how I picture it may vary greatly from you to the next reader. Am I saying you are right and I am wrong? Obviously not. There is no right or wrong excursion. There are just excursions. However the individual chooses to picture it is completely up to them.

Excursion Design

As my excursions grow in number, I have found that each has a pivotal focus on the next. For the excursion I am on today will impact the one I discover tomorrow. It becomes more a sense of accepting the inevitable excursions than trying to schedule the prefect one.

Our excursions may differ in relevance to one another’s lives, but the allowing of excursions to develop will bring about more enjoyable Life Excursions.

    Hey Chase—

I hear ya…I think it is about choices. Choose to relieve yourself of excuses and make the things you love a reality. I still make excuses from time to time, but progress is all we can ask for.

    Come back often chase…
