Top 9 Reasons Minimalism is for YOU

minimalist1Do you like being free from the constraints of everything around you? Do you enjoy knowing you can pick up and move to Brazil where you will find that tan and toned model (YES…you too ladies)? Do you want to be different than most everyone in every society today? Well good news

Minimalism is your next great opportunity to be all and see all in your life.

Minimalism can give you choices that you never dreamed would be a possibility. Minimalism opens doors that are usually cluttered with stuff. There has never been a minimalist person I have come across that hasn’t enjoyed living life more than those that are not minimalists.

A major misconception of minimalism is that you have to live in a tent, eat only raw foods, not have any luxuries, and be poor. Sure, you can do this if you choose, but by no means do you have to do or be all of these and then some. Being a minimalist means limiting the non-essentials in YOUR life. The key is asking yourself if you actually need or want that which you have or is possible. For example, just because I could afford a brand new 72 inch Plasma TV doesn’t mean I want or need that big of a TV. Maybe my 32 inch is just fine. Same goes for having stuff in general. The more clutter piles up, the more often I have to kick myself and make the necessary decisions as to whether or not these material things are needed in my life.

Here are 9 Reasons Minimalism is for YOU:

  1. It’s cheaper. You are able to live extremely cheap as a minimalist. That doesn’t mean you have to have a boring home. Some of the most interesting homes I have been to have been those of minimalists. You just have to be creative.
  2. It’s fun. It can be fun when you are creative and willing to change the societal norm in your life. You can be whoever you want and that freedom can be shown through the minimalist lifestyle.
  3. It’s easy. Most people don’t realize how much time it takes to clutter a place as well as living in clutter. The fewer things you must deal with in your life, the more organized and productive you will become.
  4. It’s original. Not only are there so few minimalists, but each minimalist has their own lifestyle of minimalism. Therefore, you can have the most basic lifestyle and it not look like any other.
  5. It’s organized. Need a file? It’s in the minimalist file cabinet. Need a jacket? It’s in the minimalist closet. Need the nose hair clippers? It’s in your secret I-don’t-want-others-to-see-this minimalist drawer. Whatever your immediate need may be, the items in a minimalist home are, usually, more organized. You will be happy you are a minimalist when you aren’t searching for hours for something.
  6. It’s impressive. Your friends and family will think you are crazy at first. But quickly, they will be impressed by your lifestyle and the many doors that are open to you and your time-filled day’s.
  7. It’s eco-friendly. What is a better way to save the environment than to stop taking from it. All of that clutter you have, had to come from some natural element. As a minimalist, you can stop taking from the environment and appreciate it more.
  8. It’s manageable. How many times have you asked yourself, “If there was just one more hour to get this stuff done, I could do it,”? Well, you will have many free hours now that your life is not consumed by stuff.
  9. It’s FREEing. It doesn’t cost a damn thing to become a minimalist. If anything, it makes you money by way of selling stuff online or in yard sales. Plus, you will feel freer from the constraints of the busyness and materialistic society of which surrounds us.More time is available, which means more life excursions are available.

I hope this captures your interest in minimalism more. There are some other great benefits that I didn’t detail, but can be found in other blogs or websites. Try minimalism out for a week and if it ruins your life, you are allowed to come back here and tell me I am the worst influential person EVER. In my minimalist life, I have plenty of minimalist time to sit quietly in my minimalist home and ponder these great minimalist comments.

  3. Hey Dave

It’s my first time here and I’m genuinely impressed with your post.

Just recently I’ve become obsessed over minimalism and am trying my best to live with less (from my clothing to my car to the ingredients that I use when I cook).

This post was great because it reinforces all that I believe minimalism – and life – to be about.

    I’ll be back often!

I just found your blog and I love it. I’m a minimalist, although probably without having put too much thought into it, and it’s great to read about other people who are choosing a lifestyle where consuming crap isn’t their goal. Good stuff!
