How to Go from 9-5 on Friday to Aussie Bum by Monday

My life stumbled into a college course on who-knows-what about who-really-cares back in the Fall of 2004. I am not sure if I was praising the porcelain god the night before or I had worked until midnight, but I was tired and about to have to listen to some boring lecture. Then, this random… Continue Reading

Excursion: Horsetail Falls – California

This past beautiful weekend, I got to take an excursion to a beautiful place in the Sierra Nevada Mountains called Horsetail Falls. The entire area is gorgeous and easily accessible. The hiking trail beginnings at a parking lot along Highway 50 about 1 hour and 30 minutes from Sacramento, California and 25 minutes from Lake… Continue Reading

Make Your Location Independent Excursion a Reality

When I told everyone I was leaving my steady career in a good company, the following are a few of the responses I received:

* “Are you crazy…in this economy you’re quitting?”
* “How can you afford that?”
* “This would be a great time to start building wealth, why you leaving that?”
* “You are making a bad decision.”
* “I wish I could do that. I am jealous.”
* “You mean…you are just packing up and taking off. How?”

Those are just the tip of the iceberg. The saddest part was that few realized the potential they had and the opportunities in life they were passing by for stability. A great quote that reflects these coworkers outlooks is as follows by Tim Ferris:

“Most people will choose unhappiness over uncertainty.”

Unfortunately, many people I worked with saw uncertainty as challenging and unimaginable. I believe debt also played a role in their response and their decisions to stay in careers they didn’t fully appreciate or want. I also think they didn’t realize that traveling IS affordable and possible.

Review: Blog – Man vs. Debt

One of my favorite television shows is Man Vs Wild where Bear Grylls does anything and everything to survive out in the toughest terrain around the world. There are many reasons I love the show. His determination, his knowledge, his physical ability, his mental toughness, and his character in general are that of few I have ever known. Since the show’s inception, there have been a few other shows, stories, etc that have taken the premise into other facets of entertainment. When it comes to the financial aspect, Adam Baker takes on Debt like Bear Grylls takes on the Amazon.

The Excursion that was…..

As I stared through the 5 inch faux-glass window of the Qantas jet, I realized I was finally home. I could see the Golden Gate Bridge. The Transamerica Pyramid. The old Candlestick Park. But more importantly, I could see my future. My time abroad was adventurous, tiring, educational, timely, enjoyable. But I quickly realized while… Continue Reading

Where ya been….

So I must apologize…The internet access at the place I was staying during the last two weeks of travel was not the greatest. So I am back now and hopefully will have some new and exciting content up very, very soon. I will be posting a new ‘Spot on the Map’ article. Are there any… Continue Reading
