Where to Start?

So, you watched the hoarding video last week. Not only was it entertaining, but it was a mirror of sorts for you. You may be just like those people. Fortunately, you read LifeExcursion (lame plug) and know there is a chance to change your lifestyle and enjoy your excursion through life.

Sometimes, we are motivated to make changes to our lives. However, the starting line is no where in site. Or at least we are blindfolded, spun around and told to find the start line. For the most part, that starting line is the anchor preventing positive forward movement.

The following are a few ways to start your organizing today:

  • Focus on approaching the task you are most motivated to do.
  • Right a list of what needs to be organized.
  • Challenge yourself and celebrate small success
  • Set aside time for JUST organizing
  • Ask for help
  • Maintain organized space, area, or practice
  • Reflect on positives of organizing

These may be common or repeated in other blogs and/or other posts on this site. But, hopefully, this may reinforce those thoughts and help you start today.

Have a great day….

Dave

I would give my tips for organizing, but they don’t seem to work. “Focus on approaching the task you are most motivated to do.”- I usually try to do this, but I still feel a bit deflated when I don’t get to the smaller tasks I had planned to do. Am I making headway, or not? It’s hard to tell. Anyway, since I have been doing this without really realizing it, seeing this in print makes me feel a bit better, because maybe I am getting more done than I though. Because I usually do the things I believe are most essential,…and leave the less important things to the end. “Challenge yourself and celebrate small success.”- I don’t do this, and that’s a problem. Because getting depressed you are not getting enough done will just help you get even less done! ” Set aside time for JUST organizing.” I had an idea in this area, I don’t know if it’s a good idea or not. Like perhaps, set aside a time period…like an hour or a half hour, where you “organize”, then when the hour or half hour are finished you STOP what you are doing, whether you or done or not, and then move to the next important thing you have to do. Because you know how if you do something like clean out the closet or whatever, you might end up spending the whole day on it, and that’s not good. But like I said, I don’t know if this is a good idea, what do you think??? “Ask for help.”- This part would be kind of hard because no one likes me! :(

Awesome comment like always Jimmy. I completely agree with the STOP comment. I try and do that so I don’t burn out too. Thanks for sharing great thoughts and taking the time. I know my other readers enjoy as well

You make an interesting point. Momentum really is key to getting anything started. I noticed that with blogging. Once I hit momentum my content production became easy. While I rarely have writers blog, occasionally I hit a wall and I just have to start writing a sentence or two and the rest just flows.

  3. It’s important to start small and easy. The goal initially should be to feel accomplished, to get the confidence you need to move forward with your more demanding goals. It’s often difficult to figure out where you need to go to do what you want to do and no one can tell you how to do it. It’s different enough for everyone that one persons advice might not apply to another.

I can’t say enough about the importance of organization. If you have an organized work area you start to feel professional, you start to take yourself seriously. That’s probably a good first step. Find a good place to work and everything else can be accomplished more easily.

I agree about the organized work area. It definitely helps with other aspects when I see my work area structured.

      Thanks for the commeent

I was just planning a Ikea trip this weekend to get some file cabinets to organize my workspace. As JD said “If you have an organized work area you start to feel professional, you start to take yourself seriously.”

I seriously love how you always write so little but hit the bullseye. I’ve been a messy person throughout most of my life. But like everyone else, there will come a time where you need to put a full stop to all this.

Great post. i’m going to try work on some of it and see how it goes. The real problem with me is i am not bothered by it at all. It’s just not presentable and i need to do something about that.

HAHAHA….Thanks Karlil. I am glad my short writings help. I wish I was smart enough to elaborate more but that is about the only effective way I can write. So I guess my flaw is sometimes a strength.

I am glad you are looking towards an organized lifestyle. Hopefully, my sugg’s will continue to help.
