Although not in the conventional McKibben-Guillebeau-Ogle-Wright-Wiens aspect of being a nomadic blogger, I would have to say that the journeys I have undertaken in the last year qualify me to present you with…
Though not as traveled as many of the past DNBC Hosts, I think you will feel comfortable knowing that I currently am living an independent lifestyle that supports location independence. Over the last year, I have lived in Arizona, Sydney, Northern California, and have returned back to the desert lands of Phoenix. Throughout this time, blogging has opened up many avenues of networking and communication that I did not see viable prior to this latest journey.
I am going to approach this edition of the DNBC by first telling you a little more about my sites, followed by the top-notch links submitted this time around, and lastly, note some other great articles submitted.
Obviously, you have landed at LifeExcursion and possibly have enjoyed many of the articles I have posted primarily over the last 9 months. LifeExcursion has fallen on the back burner, but I am reinvigorated to get LifeEx back to more frequent and informative posts in the next few days. The reason it has fallen a bit to the wayside is due to my work on my second eBook entitled PROJECT M-31: Simplify Your Life in 31 Days (If you are interested in becoming an affiliate for PROJECT M-31, click here). Thanks to that project being completed, I am now able to refocus on posts at both LifeExcursion and The Minimalist Path.
Now that you have had the chance to get to know me a little better, I think it is time to dive right in to this edition of DNBC…

- There really is no better place to start then with the one and only — Colin Wright. Colin is the founder of Exile Lifestyle and provided this awesome post: Landmarks are Just Brands with Souvenirs. I have been saying this same thing for some time now. However, Colin does the proper thing and points out the pro’s and con’s of landmark branding. I, like Colin, wish more people would put an influence on cultural interaction rather than digital camera focus. Wright hit my problem of landmark branding right on the head of the nail with this quote, “When travelers go to a landmark expecting to get a real, genuine cultural experience, sometimes they’ll be disappointed with what they find. Even worse, they may think that what they saw and experienced at the tourist trap is a good representation of the country and people who live there.”
- In the post Then & Now by Chris Dunphy of Technomedia, Chris tells us about the extravagant lifestyle he once lived in the Bay Area to a small trailer in the Midwest. Though this might sound like a setback, today, Chris is living the lifestyle he has loved. I tend to agree that the adventure of life is much more fun on the bumpy road. There was a light bulb moment for me when I left work one day back in 2005 and said, “I want to move to Thursday Island (off the north-west coast of Australia).” Mind you, this island is not inhabited except for campers that get picked up and dropped off by boat only once a day. The freedom is what pulled me in. I think Chris has found that and his nomadic lifestyle is something I am jealous of.
- Want to be inspired to do whatever the hell you want with your life? Well, Kristie Lewis provides quite a few resources in her post 100 Inspirational, Entrepreneurial Talks on Youtube. Many of the provided linked videos are great for entrepreneurs of any and every level. It doesn’t matter how tough the road is at times, there is always a story out there that will push you through the lull. Kristie has found many of them here.
- Over at Foreigner’s Finances, Austin Morgan interviewed a fellow international language teacher in Travis Lueth. In the article Interview with an ESL Teacher in South Korea, they discuss the inner battles of balancing personal finances while teaching overseas. As I have a friend, Mark Wiens of Migrationology, doing the same right now, it has become quite interesting hearing how individuals manage a lifestyle overseas without going overboard. I think that if I was in the same boat, I would be blowing money left and right. This article is a great insight to the ESL lifestyle and what you can do with your life overseas.
- Why Travel in China is Like Being the Protagonist in a Fantasy Novel is probably the most unusual blog post title EVER and the short, but interesting tale of a trip in China (obviously) will leave you perplexed to say the least. If I can leave a blog post perplexed, I think the writer has done an over-the-top fantastic job. Check it out.
