While in Auckland, New Zealand, there was a bookstore shutting down on Queen Street. I frequented this book store as they continued to drop the prices before shutting the doors. One of the masterpieces I happened to pick up was Sleeping Around: A Couch Surfing Tour of the Globe by Brian Thacker.
Brian Thacker, a writer and resident of Melbourne, Australia, decided to delve into an around the world journey by way of couchsurfing. If you have never heard or attempted couch surfing, then let me explain. Couch surfing is the act of traveling and having the accomodations of a resident of whatever place you are in. Usually, you are provided with a couch to sleep on and the basic utilities along with the homely welcome of a true resident rather than a hotel bellhop. I have yet to use the official site of couch surfing but know many people who have had great success doing it.
Back to Brian. In just this journaled journey, Brian visits the following countries: Chile, Brazil, USA, Canada, Iceland, Belgium, Turkey, Kenya, South Africa, India, and the Philippines. His journey details the crazy world of couch surfing. He continuously drinks and occasionally sleeps. Both not usually of his own choice. The experiences Thacker has are once in a lifetime and you begin to envy the opportunities he takes advantage of. Then he tells you about the too short, sock smelling couch he sleeps on in some random country and you begin to draw that envy back a bit.
With all that said, I strongly suggest picking up Sleeping Around by Brian Thacker. He has some other great books (so I have been told) that I have provided the links to below as well. Definitely a great read and I hope you enjoy as much as I did.

If they made a “Queen Size Bed Surfing Tour Of The Globe”, that would be sublime. However, the idea in principle sounds cool where a network where people can crash at each others places all over the globe.

There are some people that are Luxurious hosts where you get your own room and queen size bed and so on. But sometimes it is exactly the opposite. Thacker definitely has this experience. Good read!
