Fitness 2010: Kicking My Own Butt

It may seem like I am a little late on the whole new years resolutions thing, but I don’t really believe too much in them (I am #2 of Adam Baker’s here) so I am not really addressing that issue too much. With that said, everyone around me, including you lovely bloggers, seems to be celebrating the new year with resolutions galore. Well, I am not here to promise any resolutions, but rather state things I will be accomplish for 2010 and prepare for in 2011.

I heart working out. I know many of you despise it. I thrive when I am fit and healthy. I love my body when I can stare at it in the mirror and see a work of art. You may think that is conceded, but it is no different than an artist molding a piece of clay into the form of a human. We would all admire that talent, so I admire my talent of transforming my body into a work of art.

2009 was crazy for my health and fitness. I didn’t set many goals throughout the year other than just finishing a few races like this one and this one. All of that was due to the travel in Hawaii, Australia, and New Zealand and the subsequent inconsistent lifestyle. 2010 will be different though. I have some awesome goals planned and hopefully, will be able to commit to each and every one of them.

My physical fitness and health goals for 2010:

  • Finish the AR50 (American River 50 mile run) in under 10 hours
  • Become a MarathonManiac (Bronze Level) by completing 2 marathons within a 16 day time frame
  • Maintain <5% body fat throughout the year
  • Stay around 180 lbs.
  • Get my sexy abs back….yes ladies(including my girlfriend), you read that right
  • Put 15 pounds of muscle back on
  • Complete a Cross Fit workout
  • Qualify for the Boston Marathon (3:10:59 or less)
  • Run a sub-18 minute 5k

So those are my fitness and health goals for 2010. I am sure to add to these, but these are the ones I have looked ahead to tackle.

My biggest and most desired goal is to start training and setting up the opportunity to do the following two things in 2011:

  • Finish an Ironman Triathlon
  • Run 52 Marathons in 52 weeks for charity

    Okay, I think it’s safe to say your fitness goals for 2010 are a bit more ambitious than mine!

    That’s good, though, because I’ll be able to pick up tidbits of how to accomplish mine through you accomplishing yours.

    Ever do barefoot running?

      Hey Colin…

      I did barefoot running for 2 months and loved it except on race day. I am definitely a Vibram-Fanboy and really want to do a barefoot marathon some day. The one barefoot race I did was a 5k and the road ended up being concrete (not softer asphalt) so I demolished my feet. But I did run it in 23:10.

    Push um out man, I know you can! Make sure to indulge in the occasional involuntary “U” turn from a healthy activity to an all you can eat “Peter Piper” pizza buffet! HA

    Ambitious indeed. Would love to see some follow-up posts talking about your training and experiences accomplishing these goals. Especially the 50 mile race!

    Those are some huge goals! i have no doubt you will whip it out though. Looks like you kept in great shape during your travels by running. I really got into powerwalking and hiking along with my regular ass kicking pilates and yoga routines in order to stay in shape. Definitely not easy when you are traveling and eating randomly when you can. Keep us updated on your progress :D

      The traveling part really killed all motivation to stay in shape in 2009.

    Ahh I love it! Broke my collarbone in 3 places a couple years ago on an awesome, but not so smart, longboard run and since recovering from that (and my first lung surgery) I’ve been obsessed with exercise. Something about not being able to be active really inspires you and makes you love life. In the last 6 months I’ve gained 20 pounds in muscle and lost about 8 in fat, which will probably reverse after my upcoming surgery, but I work hard, play hard, and love what I do so I’ll get back on track right away.

    Fitness goals for 2010: Return to my current fitness one year from now, following my upcoming surgery. It’s going to be f*cking tough but I’m ready.

    Those are some awesome goals! Keep us posted on your progress, esp for that river run.

    I’ve already accomplished one goal for the year – to stay in shape throughout the holiday season. I can definitively say that I am in better shape now than I was a month ago. It’s all about consistency.

    2 of my fitness goals for 2010 are: first marathon in May and 1/2 Ironman before my 30th Birthday on Sept 5. I’m stoked.

    Cheers to your goals! A bit more than what I’m thinking for myself but more power you to you!

    I know for me getting back into the pool is a major goal as well as finally picking up a cyclocross bike and riding the 15+ miles to work each day.
