Dear 7:17 PM Version of David Damron….

You have been doing so well. The Minimalist Path EXPLODED earlier this week from others acknowledging your great efforts. LifeExcursion received a subsequent push by a killer article titled 20 Reasons Why You Need to Start Traveling Now. All was going in the right direction to start the new year off right. Then 7:17 PM came January 6th, 2010.

What happened man?! How come you lost the attention span and the hard work to move forward with your goals of being a successful blogger and entrepreneur? Why did you fall off the productivity horse dude? You really should now be considered Mr. Unproductive.

The new year has just started and you are already…

1) Getting Behind Schedule
2) Putting Off Great Ideas
3) Making Excuses for No Reason
4) Not Meeting Own Expectations

That definitely is not a great way to start out the new year.

One of the biggest issues is that you claim you want to be a highly successful independent person, but you are not willing to put in the focus to do so. Sure, you sit here at the computer acting like you are “Getting S*** Done”, but you really are not. Stop Making Excuses and just do what you love and are passionate about.

We both know it is not the hard work that is stopping you. You love to work hard. It is just that you allow the unproductive self to overtake your passion which is something that must be stopped—right—now.

So, let me give you a list of things you need to do right now to be more productive…

There is too much to be done and too little time to continue to make excuses and not be successful. I know there are a lot of opportunities for you and it is past due to be taking full advantage of them.

So, stop whining and get to going.

Sincerely,
The 10:02 Version of David Damron

The Reason I Wrote This….

With the new year, many of us have high expectations of ourselves. Resolutions are made and we usually give up on them quickly. I didn’t have any resolutions this year (or any of the last few years for that matter) because I don’t think a specific day should be RESOLUTION DAY, but rather EVERYDAY can be RESOLUTION DAY.

My productivity level has SUCKED. I am giving my own butt a good kicking. I want so much, but don’t focus on focusing (if that is even a phrase). It all comes down to my choices and my decisions.

I love to stress taking control of our lives here at LifeExcursion because I want everyone to start “Living Life to the Max Today”. To do that we all have hurdles we must clear. This is mine. I want and will take the excursion through life I desire, but placing hurdles in my own path will not lead to a successful path.

This post is not meant to be a pity me plea. It is meant to do three things: 1) Refocus myself 2) Show you all that we all have our own hurdles to overcome 3) Acknowledge that facing the truth is hard but necessary.

I will overcome this issue. I know I will. Sometimes, it just takes looking in the mirror and scolding yourself to get it done.

****To all of you faithful followers, please give me some great productivity tips, links, etc to help me finally become something of a success on this thing called the internet. I am willing to put in a lot of hard work, but the productivity levels need to SKYROCKET to become what I dream of becoming. Thank you all for your help!!!****

If nothing, this is a great reminder for everyone of us.

Haha, really clever idea. For some reason very specific timecodes always make me laugh (also: unnecessary lists, superfluous verbiage, pidgin-speaking cats).

Definitely a not-so-subtle wakeup call for the rest of us, too. I’m definitely not where I’d like to be in the New Year yet, so I think it’s time I get the momentum going!

Careful not to scold too much. I see punishment for not doing something as negative and doesn’t get me motivated at all in the way that I want.

Instead I try to get excited for what I want to do, what I want to accomplish. Obviously this requires work to get things done but it’s happy work instead of WORK work. Punishment leads to WORK work.

Get yourself riled up for taking over the world and it will be easier than you think.

I find that refocusing myself is a constant, on-going task — I don’t know if you find it to be the same way, but every so often, I have to sit down and really focus on focusing.

Personally, I’ve found a timer to be the best way to handle these refocusing sessions. If I can just focus for 30 or 15 or even 10 minutes, I can generally get back into the swing of things than if I tell myself I have to sit down and focus for two or three hours.

I will have to try out that timer tip. The only concern is that I would rush through work that I need to provide attention to. But that is probably me just making excuses. Actually that is exactly what that is.

      THANKS

This made me smile in recognition.

You know, the funny thing is that once I kick myself in the butt hard enough to actually start writing for my blog, it feels great! And I’m sitting there thinking, “Why didn’t I start doing this sooner?” Like getting a massage and asking yourself why you waited so long!

Hmmm…maybe I shall start rewarding myself for blog writing with massages. There’s a productivity tip for you!

PS–I second the timer tip. Also works for cleaning. I’m always amazed at how quickly I end up zipping through a pile of dirty dishes.

haha. This is exactly how i am feeling as well. I have so many plans and big ideas, but what takes the most work and willpower is chipping away at it consistency everyday! I always feel so great when I finally write and get my ideas out. Thanks for the ass kicking!

You can dooo it! I like your idea of a letter to yourself. That outside perspective sometimes produces that much needed pick me up. Wish I had a good link or idea to help you out… but hopefully it’s enough just to say I feel ya! :)
