What is the Grind

Simply put, the grind is doing something that you would rather not be doing to sustain life in other aspects.

Why Do People Go Through The Grind

We all have bills to cover in life. Whether that is the phone bill or the around-the-world plane ticket bill, we all have some form of financial responsibility. We have to pay it in some way so many people take the conformed way out and fall into the grind.

Why People Hate the Grind

The grind is a means to an end. It rarely satisfies the life long dreams. It rarely brings about significant meaning and purpose to one’s life. The grind can replace any grinder in a flash. The grind cares even less about the grinder than the grinder does about the grind. In other words, it isn’t a means to a beginning of a wonderful new life. It simply is, restating here, a means to an end…of one’s life.

How to Handle the Grind

Establishing a self that has significant meaning and purpose outside of the grind will deplete the depression that comes from the sadness of the grind. Make it a temporary life situation that will lead to the life you want to be living.

What Steps Should I Take to Leave the Grind

  1. Find New, Impressive Friends. Happy hour with the coworkers doesn’t improve your life. It doesn’t. Go to dinner with some interesting folks you have never met before. Ask someone out to dinner who is mind-blowingly more incredible than you. It’s always best to learn from the best.
  2. Save Your Fricken’ Money. Stop blowing it on drinks and nights out. Stay in and start planning a budget that allows you to do what you want.
  3. Invest Your Fricken’ Money. Sure, saving is necessary, but you should also invest on something that gets you closer to your dream life. If that’s learning how to start a blog, pay for a course. If that’s buying programs to grow your small design business, than buy them. Invest in your future.
  4. Make a Fricken’ Plan. What are you doing today to be ___________ tomorrow? That’s the statement I live by. I fill in the blank with whatever I want to achieve next. Your Turn!
  5. Make a Life Altering Commitment. Why the hell do you want to live a mediocre life. Make a decision and run with it. Stop wavering and just make the necessary changes before you die which could be any minute now unfortunately. Stop wasting minutes.

Is That All

Yep! All you have to do is realize what you are doing and change whatever it is that is making you unhappy and you will leave the grind. The grind doesn’t have to be at a 9-5. It can be a relationship that’s a grind. It could be a roommate that’s a grind. It could be debt that’s a grind. Whatever the grind is in your life, eliminate at this moment or, at the very least, work your tail off, like I am doing, to get leaps and bounds closer to ending your own grind.
