Goal Seekers Series: The Non-9-5′er Crew

Goal Seekers Series: The Non-9-5′er Crew

(This is part 2 in a 3 part series this week detailing those who have or soon will be accomplishing their amazing goals. This series leads up tothe launch of Destination X on April 18th, 2011)

_____________

If you have visited a handful of blogs out there, you have probably run into at least one pushing the location independent, work from anywhere lifestyle. I am all for it and strive to do the same, but there aren’t as many people actually living said lifestyle as there are blogs telling others how to do so.

There are exceptions as well…

In & Out of the 9-5

As many of you may know, I have been in and out and back in the 9-5 routine. I am working my tail off to establish my own business that I am passionate about, but for now, I am still striving to live the lifestyles of those to be mentioned in a bit.

The crazy thing is, I reached my ultimate goal at one point. I quit the 9-5 and moved to Aussie. The only problem was I was an idiot. I thought money grew on trees…down in Aussie. I didn’t set myself up to truly live this lifestyle forever. Obviously, that is what my intention is now, but I missed out on the golden opportunity.

The 9-5 usually does two things to people: 1) makes them hate their situation more & 2) settle into their situation more. I can tell you that while I was meagerly working for myself, I was working my tail off to 1) love the lifestyle I had & 2) not settle for anything less than my best. Unfortunately, my approach was way off and now you see me here back at the drawing board.

Am I disappointed? A little. However, I know it can be done because I have done it before. Hopefully, Destination X will help you do the same.

The Non-9-5′er Crew

The list to follow are a few of the people I aspire to live like and all have the common trait of living life on their own terms and not that of a clock. If you start following these folks, I guarantee you will find yourself a step closer to freedom.

The reason these folks are part of this Goal Seekers Series is because I want you to see that you can establish such an extreme goal as surviving on your own terms. These individuals were bound and determined to figure a way out of the rat race and have been able to live to tell about it (through me). Enjoy!

______________

  • Sean Oglehttp://seanogle.com/ – Sean was part of my early days mastermind group that wasn’t so much a mastermind group, but starving bloggers sharing a few spoonfuls of rice and beans. About a year and a half later, Sean has been able to sustain this thing called life strictly from supporting himself via online ventures. Seeing his journey from beginning to it’s current and, hopefully, long lasting position has been quite the trip despite my lack of assistance in any way.
  • Tammy Strobelhttp://rowdykittens.com/ – The tiny-house -admirer that she is, Strobel exudes confidence through her smile (at least via pictures) and practices what she preaches over at Rowdy Kittens on a day in day out basis. Through her attention to understanding the smalltopia she has built for herself, she is capable of doing anything and everything she so chooses. She continues to live with less to live with more in her life.
  • Everett Boguehttp://evbogue.com/ – The always outlandish, controversial and general unique Bogue has taken his life from $3,000 in the bank to making a healthy living off the internet. Today, he goes above my head at times, but he still manages to pull a loyal fan base along for his deep thinking ride. Similarly to Sean, Everett stuck to his guns, worked hard to find some way, any way, to support himself so he wouldn’t have to head back to the 9-5. So far, he is wildly successful at doing so.
  • Joshua Millburnhttp://www.theminimalists.com/ – Joshua recently left a 6 figure job to do whatever the hell he wants. I admire Joshua a lot because he realized having a ton of crap kept holding him back from truly living the life he wanted. Now, he is working on his writing to be able to publish a few pieces. Millburn may not have the name of the previous bloggers just yet, but he is on his way to just that.
  • Corbett Barrhttp://thinktraffic.net/ – Barr has built a brand. When I say built-a-brand, I mean he has built a business online out of nothing and afforded himself the opportunity to dominate the blogosphere. There aren’t too many people willing to dedicate themselves to seeing their two blogs take off in popularity. Barr provides value. That value provides him a return on his time investment. An investment he loves sharing with the world.

Honestly, I could go on and on, but I won’t. Why? Because you should focus on these folks first. Once you have read everything they have to say, you should find yourself on a path to freedom.
