Book Review: How FULL is Your Bucket?

51gOEL7nB4L._SL160_Are you dipping or even worse, DOUBLE-DIPPING? Or are you filling?

I like to think I try to fill as much as possible. What am I filling you are obviously asking by now? In life, I am trying to fill buckets and get my own bucket filled. A question I frequently ask myself is, “Am I filling or dipping from others buckets?” By doing this I realize whether or not my current actions are resulting in a positive influence on society as well as myself or if I am dipping from society and spreading a negative force. But none of this would have ever opened my eyes without the notion coming from the book How FULL is Your Bucket?

How FULL is Your Bucket? was written by Tom Rath and Donald Clifton. Through Gallup Research, this book has generated a great premise for living life. The focus is to realize 1) your own influence on society and 2) understanding the influence of society on you. All of which derives from a positive or negative nature.

POSITIVE — POSITIVE — POSITIVE . Are you being….? How can you be more…..? Do I appreciate others being….? Ask yourself these three questions. I think you know how they finish. Positivity spreads extremely fast. Just as negativity does. However, when we increase the positive stimuli in one part of our life, it tends to influence the positive stimuli in others. The problem, once again, is that negativity can be done in the same way. So, honing our focus in on positive actions and reactions will harness the positivity in much of our life and hopefully, more than negativity.

How FULL is Your Bucket? definitely focuses on making a positive difference. Through such positive actions, one will realize their positivity can and will transfer from person to person. But it has to start somewhere.

If you are having issues with being positive or feel that nothing or no one around you is being a positive influence, I strongly suggest you pick up this book. Life is too short to be negative or let negativity brings us down and waste our time. Let this book teach you how to change the minor actions of negativity into major life changing positive moments.

I haven’t read this book but it seems like it would be a good one to get:

“Am I filling or dipping from others buckets?” Good way of looking at your own personal contribution…

  2. Hi Dave,

I agree with Paul, this book seems to offer a good perspective on life. It is easy to be negative and cynical, I am an expert sometimes :-) . Negativity is poisonous even if there might be merit to the criticisms. I will keep my eye out for this book. Thanks.

Positive actions will lead to positive reactions. Like you said John, the more you are negative and spite others, the more deadly to yourself do you become.

This is by the man who founded the Gallup Organization (Donald Clifton). That company gives this book among others to all their new employees…good stuff!
