The exact date does not come to mind, but in mid-December 2009, I stumbled across a site that spoke volumes to me. It told the success of someone who aspired to have freedom to design their own lifestyle and through hard work, determination, and some luck, success was found. This person not only developed a lifestyle to call his own, but has decided to share his thoughts and knowledge for FREE to help others achieve similar results. By now, I think you know who I am talking about…Pat Flynn. In this article, I want to do 3 things: 1) Explain my background and story of lifestyle design  -  2) Detail my success story of using Flynn’s approach  -  3) Explain Why YOU should sign up for his newsletter and start implementing today.

Who the H*** is This Guy?

By now, you are probably wondering who in the world I am. My name is David Damron and I currently run the sites LifeExcursion & The Minimalist Path. I started LifeExcursion back in February 2009 as a way to share my thoughts as I left the United States and moved overseas. Before even that had occurred, I had made the decision that, though my well paying job was secure even in the recession, I wanted to fulfill larger dreams. I decided to quit my 9-5 cubicle job and moved to Australia. My employer was disappointed, but happy to see me fulfill a lifelong dream. With this move, I wanted to start generating income from passive ventures. This is when the journey began.

I started LifeExcursion in February 2009, quit my job in mid-March 2009, moved to Australia, and then got lazy. I enjoyed my time overseas, but it was quickly apparent that I was not being productive. After my girlfriend joined me for a few excursions around Australia and New Zealand, we decided to head back stateside in July 2009. I had fallen behind on LifeExcursion progress and didn’t pick it back up until August 2009. I slowly built a small following at that site and eventually found a niche that my readers and other bloggers were highly interested in. My niche was in minimalism and simplifying life. Needless to say, I was just as surprised as I am sure many of you are.

I started The Minimalist Path around October 1st, 2009 with an incentive of a free eBook entitled 7 Steps to a Simpler Life, of which I charge now, for those that subscribed. My following quickly grew and by mid-November The Minimalist Path had passed LifeExcursion as my successful blog.

This is when I started to wander and be unproductive. I had many thoughts and goals, but I was not putting pen to paper per se. Then one day I found Smart Passive Income and was intrigued by Pat’s story. I immediately signed up for the newsletter and received his free eBooks: The Smart Way guide. I knew this was a sign and I immediately started working on my next eBook.

How I Capitalized on Flynn’s eBooks: The Smart Way

I knew I had great guidance after reading Pat’s eBook, so I started implementing his teachings to the product I was working on.

Points from eBooks: The Smart Way I implemented:

• Generated a Mindmap and Outline: I know. You are probably thinking, “Well, no duh you need an outline.” The thing is, how many of us actually do that. I know I claim to usually, but more often than not I don’t. By doing this I had focus and goals that needed to be met. I wasn’t wandering aimlessly.
• Template’s and Fonts: I like to think I know what my customers/readers want, but I really don’t a lot of times. One of those things is type of reading format. Now, I didn’t implement all of Pat’s suggestions, but I did take them into consideration and I know they helped as per feedback by editors.
• Know Your Audience: I may not know what my audience wants, like stated in the last section, but I have an idea. I knew my audience struggled with implementing minimalism daily. I decided that address this need may be of interest and I was right.
• Things You Shouldn’t Forget to Include: This section was more of a must-do checklist. They are things I may have forgotten, but was saved by having them.
• E-Junkie: I knew and have used e-junkie for a long time, but the guide increased my previous knowledge. There is a tip about your “Add to Cart” button that is absolutely a money maker. If you don’t read this section after you are finished with your eBook, then your sales will be hurt.
• Sales Page: This remains a flaw in my process, but through a few tweaks from Flynn’s advice, I was able to improve my sales page. I am still scared of sales pages, but through Pat’s advice, my tension is decreasing.
• Affiliate Sales Force: This was my killer sales producer. I have a good following, but I am still only able to convert so many of them. Your affiliates are your friends. Affiliates are Kings!

By now, you are probably wondering, “Okay, so how well did you do using this system?”. On February 16th, I launched PROJECT M-31: Simplify Your Life In 31 Days. Using Pat Flynn’s advice in his eBook, I was able to generate $1090.55 in sales with $394.42 going to my affiliates. In a span of roughly 1 month, I was able to generate $696.13 of passive income. You may be thinking that I put way too much work into my eBook for such a small return. Here is what you are overlooking though…
