6 Areas of Your Life You Need to Organize This Week

8ygjd4Sometimes, the clutter people call their lives seems to be to large to get into control. That is never the case and such is just an excuse that has led those people to unorganized lifestyle. However, I do understand not knowing where to start their removal of clutter. It can seem like too overwhelming of a task, but there are ways and areas to attack such a problem successfully.

Knowing that there is an issue and admitting to such is the biggest problem. Too many people don’t want to accept their fault of being an unorganized stuff hoarder. That would be fine, but many of these same people I hear complaining that they don’t have time to improve their lives. Everyone has time. It’s just a matter of properly addressing your primary goals and needs in life. For example, if you want more time with your kids but you always spend 3 hours a week looking and paying for bills and paperwork, maybe you need to figure a way to limit time spent on bills and paperwork and you will have more time to play with your kids. The usual case is that we don’t recognize where we are wasting time and effort as well as not calculating the benefits of an organized life. Once, we recognize where our problems are, it is fairly smooth sailing to a more organized, productive, happy life.

Here are 6 Areas of Your Life You Need to Organize this Week:

  1. Finances. I can’t tell you how amazing it feels to have my finances in order. I am 25 years old and probably 4 years in total the last 8-9 years have my finances been all over the place. I would always put them to the side and ignore the obvious issues. Whenever my finances are in order, I have more free time, I worry and stress less, and I am a much more financially responsible person.
  2. Bedroom. The more organized your room is when you awake every morning, the more likely you will have a productive day. If your day starts out unhurried and focused, you won’t be so stressed from the onset. Try to become a minimalist in the bedroom. It is much more peaceful and productive life.
  3. Living Room or Family Room. I think people spend most of their waking hours while home in their living or family room. From watching TV to playing with the kids on the floor, organization can allow more free time to do what you please. Try putting everything back where it belongs when you are finished. How many times have you lost the remote which is buried in the pile of blankets, toys, other miscellaneous stuff in the middle of the room?
  4. Schedule. Try and develop a working schedule that doesn’t just allow you to get everything done. Make it so that you have a lot of time to do what you love. Your life schedule should be more about your life than others. Focus on doing what you want to. If finances are something you hate, scheduling a specific time to get them organized and done will keep you on task and free up more you time.
  5. Computer and desk. The more clutter on your desk, the more likely your computer is cluttered. Do you have fast food wrappers and paper strewn about your desk? Is there any sense of organization to your desk. Organize your desk and then move to your computer. If you have more than 10 desktop icons, you should seriously think about how often you use them. Try to organize files under areas you can easily frequent. Like having a Finances folder for, you guessed it, everything dealing with finances.
  6. Garage/Basement. It seems like everyone has made their garage or basement the designated junk room. “Oh…I may need that later, just throw it in the garage,” or “I am not sure where that goes, just throw it in the basement.” Sooner rather than later, both of these areas tend to be overflowing with unnecessary stuff. Tons of it. If you organize these areas, you may be able to create a habit of asking whether or not that junk you are throwing in the garage or basement is actually going to be productively used. If not, trash it.

Hope these helped. If there are other areas of one’s life you feel are more important and need more focus to become more organized, let me know by commenting here.

Have a great day!

Ah! I need to organize my finances, and my space!

For the longest time I was focused on saving money for a trip, so I kept track of every dime that came in and went out. Since I returned from my trip though, my finances have become a mess.

In the last 1.5 years I’ve moved five times times and spent periods of time living out of a backpack, a month or two at a friend’s house, etc. As a result, my stuff is all over the place.

In 2 weeks I move to Boston to start graduate school and need to add tuition and rent costs to medical bills while accounting for a change in employment. I also need to get my belongings together unless I want to live out of a backpack in my nice new apartment!

Thanks for the motivation to get things organized. I’ve been fretting about this stuff for long enough!
