(Don’t forget to check out today’s article Practical Minimalism over at The Minimalist Path)
I know life changes can be tough. I know to take baby steps is sometimes the only way to change. So, today, taking a few baby steps to becoming a minimalist without even getting up.
I have enjoyed the minimalist lifestyle for a few years now. I enjoy change as long as it means I am going to be more productive and enjoy life a lot more. However, I know many people, friends and family included, that see minimalism as a task. I see it as an opportunity to be more and enjoy more of life. Implementing minimalism will free up more time than most people think and hopefully, I can get you to implement a few minimalist ways right now.
The following are a few simple things you can do to become more of a minimalist without getting up from where you’re at:
- Reduce the clutter on your desktop.
- Throw away 5 items that are sitting on your desk.
- Go through and clear your entire email inbox. Then start using Google Gmail or Mozilla Thunderbird to simplify your email addiction.
- Organize your finances and create a budget using Mint.
- Open Google Docs and start a list of things you want to do, things you need to do, and things that are stopping you from accomplishing your goals. This should focus your efforts and eliminate unnecessary actions, activities, and stuff.
Hopefully, you can at least try and implement a few of these right now. Remember, implementing minimalism will lead to happiness.

There are apps to hide your desktop
. But, I get what you are saying. As I develop more relationships with bloggers it’s becoming hard to keep a minimal rSS feed.

Email is definitely the biggest thing for me. I got so many each day and if I didn’t use outlook and just used web-based email, even as good as gmail is, I’d be constantly trying to keep my head above water. I absolutely love outlook since it integrates the calendar, which I use to keep my life together haha
