Technorati rates me as the 1,113,935 ranked blog. Cool! That means I am only 1,112,934 from being #1. No worries…
This is the attitude I try to take to everything in life. If I can’t control it, let it be. The more I let it stress me out, the more it becomes a burden on my life. Why do I want that? I would rather kick back, relax, and let life take it’s crazy course while I enjoy the ride care free.
Patience is a virtue I value dearly. The more I let life just happen, the more fun I have experiencing the trials and tribulations along with the astonishment and captivation. I have probably missed out on a thing or two here and there because of being too patient. On the other hand, I have gained many opportunities by being the composed individual in a situation where all that is around me are chickens with their heads cut off. If you value the virtue of patience, all will equal out, just as it would have if you were stressed. I’ll take the patient path. Will you?

- Patience serves as a protection against wrongs as clothes do against cold. For if you put on more clothes as the cold increases, it will have no power to hurt you. So in like manner you must grow in patience when you meet with great wrongs, and they will then be powerless to vex your mind.

To family and friends, I may not always seem patient. And by no means am I always patient. But I try to control my mental outlook in most situations. The better you are at maintaining a stable self in uncontrollable situations the greater your relationships will be with family, friends, coworkers and so on. Being impatient rarely helps improve bonds and ties.
The benefits of patience are countless. Patience can lead to less stress, lower blood pressure, and generally better health to name a few. Patience can bring about connections for patiently accepting the inconvenience that arose. Patience can help one develop long term growth through small short term experiences. If those aren’t reasons to be more patient, I am lost as to what better reasons there would be.
It is easy to sit here and say that I am a great patient person. So besides doing just that, I would like to leave you with 4 Easy Ways to Gain Patience TODAY:
- Breathe – Just breathe. The best way to relax and patiently approach a situation is to step back and take a deep breath. You will think clearer, your mind will break down the situation and the physical toll of stress will be not exist.
- Be Understanding – It’s not your wife’s fault there was an accident on the road. Understand that life happens and there are things we just can’t control. Being stressed and frustrated won’t solve anything. Maybe address the issue calmly, but move on and don’t let it get too you. Another way to look at it… Have you NEVER been late to ANYTHING? Obviously, we all have. Understand it is bound to happen to all of us.
- See the Opportunity – If your buddy isn’t going to be over to help you for another hour, try getting other activities done. Maybe become more of a minimalist by cleaning out a different area. Take advantage of the opportunity and realize the benefits. The less you focus on what could have been lost time, the better.
- Prepare – Be prepared for the worst and anything better will be icing on the cake. The more we expect the best of every situation, the greater the odd we will be disappointed by the outcome.
I hope these few patience tips will improve your day to day experiences. Remember, the key to productivity and happiness isn’t always speed. A lot of the time it’s letting the actions you take follow a smooth, steady course with the end goal coming down the road.

I don’t think you could be patient 100% of the time. Sometimes are mind can take us down a different path. But even then, if we have been a patient person in most other situations, we won’t go crazy be impatient here and there…

My whole problem with patience is that I am not prepared for the worst to happen. I want things to all be easy breezy and when they aren’t, I get ultra frustrated. That’s a big fault of mine and I need to work on it. Breathing is a great way to let things go and get back in the present. Good article… especially after my day yesterday.

I like your way of seeing things and goals, regarding the initial example. It’s less overwhelming at least.

Excellent post Dave. I think patience is something we could all use more of. There have been two experiences in my life that have really made me a more patient person. When I lived in Brazil during grad school, dealing with government related stuff and paperwork was such a nightmare that when I came back here everything that most people complained about in terms of long lines was easy to deal with. The other has been surfing. When you surf, you have to often wait between sets of waves and sometimes you miss a wave and you have to wait. You realize you are on mother nature’s schedule not your own. So, you become more patient.

Surfing is a great example. Now that I think about it, the most patient people I have ever met are all surfers. I think the patience developed in surfing is awesome. I might have to write a post on that. Thanks for the comment.
